The Outdoor Learning Center is designed to support the 21st century learner. The defined spaces provide an environment that promotes:

The OLC will be an extension of our indoor classrooms by providing unique educational spaces that allow students to take educational risks while fostering learning dispositions and habits of mind.

Design & Usage Criteria:

  • Each space has multiple usages across all subject areas

  • Sustainable and maintainable, kid-friendly ground coverage

  • Wi-Fi usage, handicap accessible

  • Shaded areas, proper drainage

  • Place for students to be able to read, interact, perform

  • Safe space to take mental breaks, work with buddy classes

  • Opportunities for self directed learning

History & Implementation:

Phase I. Late 2018/early 2019, $76K was raised and spent for a:

  • new courtyard

  • greenhouse

  • outdoor classroom with a shade structure

Phase II. Late 2020/early 2021, raise $125K to build:

  • a performance area with seating and pergola

  • an area with rubber surface safe for play and critical for those with special needs

  • a reading corner & meditation garden

  • additional seating areas

  • raised garden beds for class wide gardening projects

  • enhanced landscape with trees, grass, flowers
